Description

Musical Variety programs such as "Birds Eye Open House with Dinah Shore" were all the rage in the 1940's. Generally the shows were 30 min in length and featured a well-known popular singer (Dinah Shore) supported by an announcer who often played the straightman (Harry VonZell)... a comedian or two (Groucho Marx) and orchestra and often a special guest star. Dinah cut her radio teeth working with Eddie Cantor in the 1930's so she not only had a wonderful, popular voice, but this Tennesee-born pop singer could do comedy too! Perfect cast for the perfect vehicle... Musical Variety. Listen here, on Itunes, or Google Play Music. Search their podcast list for "Heirloom Radio" and thank you for listening.
