Murder at Midnight was as much a suspense show featuring tales of the macabre with a supernatural twist. Produced in NY in 1946 is was a syndicated program that put out about 50 episodes. The series was directed by well known director Anton M. Leder and featured Raymond Morgan delivering the memorable introductory lines over Charles Paul's effective organ theme.
The program began on Sept. 16, 1946 and ran for about two years. It was reported that the production costs of the series averaged about $5000 per program, one of the most expensive of the syndicated programs in the era. The return on the investment was good as the show was popular and pulled in many listeners on ABC (new network after NBC Blue was forced to break away from NBC) and the Mutual Radio Network. The writers of the series included some very talented people: Max Erlich, Joe Ruscoll and Robert Newman.
