Jackson Beck portrays PI Philo Vance in "The Rhumba Murder Case" originally aired on Dec. 28, 1948. Show was based on a fictional character in 12 crime novels written by S.S. Van Dine in the 1920s and 30s. The series began on NBC in 1945 and starred Jose' Ferrer... but the best known series was from 1948-50 and starred Jackson Beck who was said to have made Philo a pretty normal, though very intelligent and extremely courteous gumshoe. Joan Alexander plays Ellen Deering, Vance's secretary and right-hand woman.
