Frank Lovejoy as Randy Stone in the drama-mystery series known as Nightbeat heard on NBC from 1950 to 52. Randy Stone works as a night beat reporter for the Chicago Star newspaper.. he encounters criminals and troubled souls and invites listeners to join him as he “searches through the city for the strange stories waiting for him in the darkness.” Most of the people he meets have a problem, many of them are frightened, sometimes Stone could help them, sometimes he could not. Lovejoy does a great job of acting here… he is powerful and believable as a tough-guy reporter with a strong sense of empathy for his fellow man…. Supporting actors included Joan Banks, William Conrad, Parley Baer, Jeff Corey, Lurene Tuttle, Paul Frees, and Howard McNear among others… it was a quality veteran cast.
