Your trauma
beats against
my love
child
if you hide under the bed
in the dark
when my hands reach out to hug you
to say I love you
I believe that
no matter what
a barrier rises because
fear
is more powerful than
love
I know
it’s time to talk about what
the counselors say
Love is a choice
but this is not true for me
Adoption is impossible
Unless I choose to reverse my perspective and believe that
