"Zep 27" (a.k.a. Zeppelin 27) is just a little Led Zeppelin style something I banged out on a recent sleepless night here in Santa Monica California. Just me, a couple guitars, some cold pizza, a Gatorade bottle filled with a mystery liquid that actually tasted strangely good?!, and of course something to record it all with.
Fact is I rarely sleep much anyway, and like most musicians I feel I do my best work after midnight. And depending on who's BLOG you read on any given day that statement in my case is either fact or fictitious wishful thinking on my part.
I did a couple of other Zeppelin style pieces recently for my friend Rachel's documentary film. Those two songs "Shred Zeppelin" and "Tangelo" were immensely popular here on SoundCloud. That said, I was in a Zeppelin frame of mind on this recent sleepless night, and so at 2 am I dialed in a decent "Song Remains the Same" Page-like guitar tone and set about recording. I like recording songs like this and in this way. You never know where you're going to end up. The song takes on a life of its own.. But then again I've always been one of those whatever happens happens kind of people anyway.
This song took about 3 hours to do from Zero to finish. I caught up on my lost sleep later that day. The end result of my sleepless night, "Zep 27", is yours to enjoy. I hope everyone likes the song. :)
