Description

Good morning,

Lexington indie MC & community activist, Devine Carama, (has opened up and worked with acts like Talib Kweli, Big KRIT, Cunningynguist, Canibus, and more!) along side associate professor Bryan Hains, was given the opportunity to teach a hip hop & community development class at the University of Kentucky this year called "Lyricism & Leadership: Hip Hop & Community Change". The 4-week summer elective course ended with a final exam of the class completing a 6 song EP featuring themes of economically challenged communities. Once the project is completed, they are to market the project and give the proceeds to a local nonprofit. Here is the first offering from that project, Agents of Change Volume 1. It's a soulful track called "Love Skin Deep & Beyond" featuring professor Carama himself! Agents of Change Volume 1 drops June 23rd.

Devine Carama's Thoughts

"The 6 students engaging this final exam had never professionally recorded or put out any music before so the first 2 weeks of class were really intense. Talking and studying about the history of hip hop and the technical process of writing lyrics. But once the class got into the "flow" of things (pun intended) they really started putting together dope records. This particular track touches on racial discrimination from the eyes of a 50 old white female student, a bi-racial male, and an African American male and female students in their 20's. I think the blend of the different perspectives hit perfectly."
