The number of girls in South Africa comes to nine million; they fall into the age bracket of between thirteen and nineteen years of age. This is the age gap where they are likely to encounter and experience menstruation. The girls that do not have access to sanitary wear are at risk of falling behind in school, their education hindered by twenty-five percent. The Subz Pads guarantee affordability for a product that only needs to be purchased once every couple of years. Sue Barnes is the director of Project Dignity. She hails from Hillcrest in Kwa-Zulu Natal. She founded the non-profit organization in 2010. The organization manufactures and produces washable pads.
