Today’s guest, Eric Panther discusses diabetes, avoiding and managing its adverse impact on claims recovery and management. He shares with us his 22 years of experience on diabetes, its types, causes, symptoms, and how it affects workers compensation claims. He is the clinical director of One Call Care Management.
He tells us that diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. A whole lot of other subtopics were discussed on the subject issue, and some of these are:
Types of diabetes
The most common types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2.
• Type 1 diabetes
If you have type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin. Your immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that produce insulin. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, although it can appear at any age. People with type 1 diabetes need to take insulin every day to stay alive. The insulin is taken by an injection or a pump or a combination of both.
• Type 2 diabetes
This type of diabetes occurs most often in middle-aged workers and older people. Type 2 is the most common type of diabetes in which the pancreas produced is not accommodated by the body.
If you have type 2 diabetes, your body does not make or use insulin well. Type 2 diabetes is more seen more seen in the workforce population and more common with obese workers.
