Description

Jeffrey Mosher was on hand the afternoon of June 19th as Sparrow and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office were sponsoring a community-wide Drug Disposal Day to follow on the super-successful drop-off event held last fall.

Here he interviews a pair of representatives with Sparrow Health System, then he speaks with Ingham County Sheriff Deputy Seymour, pictured in the thumbnail, all about that day's event.

The goal is for community members to dispose of unused or expired medications, including opioids, and to promote the fact that drop-off containers are now located at seven Sparrow Health System locations. This special event is part of an ongoing effort to address the opioid crisis. Participants were able to drop unused or expired medications in disposal containers monitored by the Sheriff’s Office. We will accept all controlled or uncontrolled substances but please do not bring Sharps, liquids, creams, or inhalers. Our first Drug Disposal Day helped eliminate approximately 250 pounds of unused and expired pills, including many highly addictive opiates. Ten large boxes were filled in just two hours and an estimated 80 people stopped by to drop off pills that in some cases had been stored for over 20 years.
