Arnolfini director Claire Doherty is imagining an arts centre for the future with invited guests through a new fortnightly podcast series.
In this episode, Claire is joined by Bristol's Mayor Marvin Rees. They discuss the essential need for artists to be at the table in the planning of future cities; the role that arts and culture can play in telling the stories of individuals, communities and places, and importance of heritage and individuality in the face of globalisation.
Marvin's new rule:
"Arts institutions are not just a place to showcase art. They are part of the story and part of the place-making."
This podcast was recorded by Tom Mercer.

As Arnolfini enters a new chapter in 2018, we want to tear up the rulebook that decides what a centre for contemporary arts should be.
Arnolfini has been a place for imagination and bold new ideas since 1961. This centre for contemporary arts has been the fuel for change in Bristol and embraced change, and now it’s time to do so once again.
Its time for us to imagine new rules.
Future podcast guests will include visionary artists, directors and individuals who are spearheading a new movement of arts organisations which are playing active civic roles in their home towns and cities.
