For the first of our Bristol Cultural Education Lectures as Arts Council England CEO, Darren Henley discusses "How investment in cultural education for young people today will create the world-beating cities of tomorrow"
This new series of talks focuses on issues connected to cultural education; the role that it plays in the city – specifically for young people – and its relationship to wider discourses concerned with the development of cultural, economic and social capital, alongside opportunities for social mobility and creative sector employment.
We will explore the challenges proposed by differing ideas of the role, purpose and aims of participation in the delivery of cultural education, through key themes such as play, identity, and place.

This will be followed by a panel discussion, with panellists including Phil Gibby (South West Director, Arts Council England) and Thangam Debbonaire (MP, Bristol West) to give a local context to this important topic.
