Jesus calls us to make disciples; not converts.
Paul in Ephesians 4 is clear that the call over the church is to make disciples who grow deep and grow tall. This means that we have to take responsibility for our own discipleship, as well as being part of the Church and discipling one another.
Paul warns of how we can all to easily be thrown ‘too and fro by the waves’ of culture and teachings that aren’t completely Scriptural. If we aren’t rigorous in reading Scripture, understanding doctrine, and applying it to ourselves, we run the risk of not maturing in Christ.
Instead, James challenges us to learn the art of preaching to ourselves; rooting ourselves in the Spirit and the Word, encouraging each other to more and more Christ-likeness, and ultimately to grow as disciples.
This talk, from Sunday 12th June 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
