Dexter Story’s follows up Wondem, his album as East African love letter, with the astonishing Bahir. The new LP dives even further into the Horn of Africa’s musical cultures. Ethio-jazz,Taureg blues, Somalian funk and more swirl through the album’s DNA. These deep traditions are synthesized into contemporary compositions that pay homage while propelling ever onward. Story merges continents by bringing together luminaries from his Los Angeles music community like Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Sudan Archives, Josef Leimberg and album producer Carlos Niño alongside forward thinking African musicians. The album’s title tune, premiered by Frosty on his monthly Red Bull Radio show, features Addis Ababa-based Endeguena Mulu aka Ethiopian Records who encases it in a radiant, electronic shroud.
