Tokyo's @Haioka impressed us at the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy with his abilities as a musical all-rounder, and his pronounced dedication to learn and to grow. "Hyakki Yakou" is the first full track we get to hear off Haioka's debut album, 'From Ash Hill,' and we're happy to premiere it here.
It's a danceable track, seated somewhere between electronica and microhouse, that relies on hypnotic sub-bass and ethereal vocal snippets. It sounds like something Four Tet might have made circa 'There Is Love In You.' And yet, it only hints at the incredible range that Haioka covers on 'From Ash Hill,' melding the familiar with the wholly unrecognizable, and giving it all a unique, mystical form.
Haioka's debut album, 'From Ash Hill,' is out May 25th on Emerald&Doreen.
