An alumnus of the 2015 Red Bull Music Academy Paris, Jade Statues has a knack for refined maximalism, stacking all manner of sonic artillery in tracks that are undeniably overwhelming while still letting each element bubble and burst on its own terms. His latest release, the ‘My Blade’ EP, is coming out on the Los Angeles-based collective TAR on October 13th, and debuting here is the stunning “Machine Birth.” Conceptualized as the birth of a powerful being borne of both plant and machine, there’s a suitable balance of the mechanically abrasive and alluringly human, a shock-and-awe sugar rush of splashes, slaps, shrieks and gasps, all capped off by a foreboding bassline and cackle of laughter.
