The spacious productions of Red Bull Music Academy Tokyo 2014 alumnus Krizzli collide with the streetwise lyrics of DeeJillz of The Square on the Outside EP, out via Seattle imprint Heat Records this Friday, April 7th. Debuting here is the title track, a squelchy, vibrating take on grime.
A founding member of The Square alongside Novelist, Elf Kid and Lolingo, DeeJillz’s rhymes provide the boisterous backbone to “Outside,” with verses and choruses shifting through the stereo field on top of Krizzli’s quirky, detail-oriented sound. Krizzli AKA Valentin Bersier, who is taking a break from running his own Files Rec. label, is a trained clarinetist, but there’s nothing delicate or even barely orchestral about the beats here - everything’s geared towards maximum low-end impact. Additional remixes on the six-track release come from Seattle locals Wristboi, RK and Korma, each presenting a distinct club-ready approach.
