Lemonick is the half-Scottish, half-Swiss Nicolas Baillie, a member of Swiss crew Kartel Klub and 2015 RBMA Paris alumnus with a knack for infusing his techno productions with organic detail. Appearing March 4th on Swiss label Argent Sale, for whom he previously released 2013’s ‘Express’ EP, Lemonick’s “Coal Harbour” churns along with booming percussion and arrhythmic detail slicing the track into discrete sections, while still feeling like one prolonged peak. The underlying percussion continually splinters into new directions, while the melody adds a squiggle of color and a guttural bassline intertwines with the insistent drum programming in the outro, bringing to mind Plastikman’s teeth-gnashing psychedelia.
The ‘Coal Harbour / Jackson Heights’ 12” is Lemonick’s contribution to La Collection, an episodic release concept by Argent Sale intended to represent the unique world of each contributing artist. The cover art utilizes objects meant to illustrate the producer’s personality, and each release is available physically as a postcard featuring the cover photo and download code.
