Hot on the heels of what would have been Sun Ra's 100th birthday, Polish RBMA alum @naphtaa releases the second edition of his acclaimed reworks of source material from the spiritual jazz godfather. Before Ra to the Remix drops on Naphta's Bandcamp this coming Monday, we're happy to premiere a taste of the project right here.
"Golden Lady In Dub" lives up to the promise it spells out in the track title, serving as dubby ode to The Nubians of Plutonia cut "The Golden Lady." Keeping the lengthy playing time mostly intact, Naphta structures his piece around the subdued cowbells and the plodding double bass of the original. With its added rhythmic elements deeply embalmed in reverb, "The Golden Lady In Dub" turns out equal parts Sun Ra and Lee 'Scratch' Perry.
