Appearing extensively on @lvlvlv's Sebenza album for @hyperdub, South African MC @okmalumkoolkat has proven to be a force behind the mic on a diverse concoction of global bass rhythms. His very first solo EP sees its release on August 11th via Viennese connoisseur label @affine-records and we're proud to premiere this rompish cut from it.
Produced exclusively by @luckyme cohort @cidrim and RBMA graduate @theclonious, the Holy Oxygen I EP constructs a logical shared space between kwaito, grime, juke and experimental hip hop, making for a truly exciting listen from start to finish. The record's second track pays homage in name to footwork, but in fact sounds closer to some of the more forward-thinking excursions currently conducted in the world of grime. Okmalumkoolkat's cheeky lyricism serves effectively as antipole to the combative instrumental, making for a good-tempered dancefloor tune that can send feet off to work at any hour of the night.
