Description

Federico Randall has described the sound of his electronic project The Peronists as “German Reggaeton vs. Inca House,” but his new ‘Periferia’ EP maintains the sense that no matter what geographic tags Randall adds, The Peronists will always remain on its very own turf. European and Latin American flavors combine throughout the EP (including a cheeky “legal” edit of Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”), but “Baby It’s Over” adds a distinct dosage of Greek flavor in the form of vocals by Yodashe, a fellow alum alongside Randall of the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy in New York.

Shuffling percussion create loose divots in the digital haze for Yodashe to add smoky vocals, with spoken-word sections overlapping in different parts that mention ecology, endangered species and suggestions of collaboration - “I still think we should work on that together.” The recurring line “baby it’s over” feels assertive but somehow regretful, and the entire track is utterly casual, with echoes of chirruping birds or ruffled feathers so that you can almost feel yourself reclining in a pool chair as the song progresses. It’s relaxing but also intimate, a conversation whispered in your ear in a loud club.

The Peronists’ ‘Periferia’ EP is out April 2nd.
