Matt Mauldin AKA Wheez-ie has been exploring the far corners of footwork for years, first via releases on the likes of Fool's Gold and Trouble & Bass and now via his own Southern Belle Recordings, which launched in 2014 with DJ Rashad's posthumous We On 1 EP. Originally begun with the intention of showcasing Wheez-ie's own productions, Southern Belle's second release now comes in the form of his Missed Connections EP, out November 13th and featuring the choice cut debuted here, "OG Deth."
"OG Deth" is a thumping slice of footwork on an EP full of familiar samples, displaying a deep knowledge of genre tropes while also subverting them. The chattering vocal cuts through thunderous subs and scattershot percussion hits insistently like a stranger pounding on your front door, all making for a frantic but addictive listen.
