In my decade as an entrepreneur I have seen businesses start and stop, launch and fail over and over. Its one of those things every entrepreneur likes to say “1 in 5 businesses fail in the first 5 years, and then 90% after that and then 90% after that, and then 90% after that.” And I’m not mocking those statistics. I can see why.
They aren’t failing because they’re bad at what they do. They’re failing because they stop showing up. I’m not the best at what I do and don’t have to be the best. I’m not the best photographer. I’m not the best mentor. I’m not the best business owner. I’m not the best podcaster. But I show up everyday. And thats all it takes. Because 90% of your competition won’t.
I have seen this in my own businesses with Maskcara. In my first year in my make up business I got the award for top 20 enrollees in the company without knowing much at all about make up. Then photography picked up and I stopped posting about business. It wasn’t a priority. And while it didn’t totally kill the business and I still get orders from my clients monthly, I am not growing. I went from thousands of dollars a month to hundreds. Did the make up change? Did my skills change? No. I stopped showing up.
