All of us know people who have perspectives & mindsets that fundamentally conflict with ours. They might be about politics, religion, healthy and responsible eating, or lifestyle choices. They can even be about viewpoints that affect others- such as racist, sexist, or other socially detrimental perspectives.

At some point, we're likely to get frustrated with these people and (in our view) their sheer idiocy. And we'll think, I just need to cut this person out of my world. In social media, unfriending them just a click away... BUT what's the impact of this decision? What happens when you exclude them from your world? What happens when you exclude yourself from theirs?

Before you cull and purify your friends list so that your world only contains people who think like you, have a look at what effect that will have on you, on the people you exclude, and society's future as a whole.

Chances are, the kids who take assault rifles to school didn't do that while they were surrounded by good healthy friends.
