"It's two crazy bitches doing their thing during these crazy times," says Melleefresh, describing her latest single, Let's Do It Together: The SuperFresh Mix, a hip house collaboration with her California counterpart, Princess Superstar.
Inspired by how Canadian rapper Powfu had sampled the opening verse of Beadadoobee's Coffee for his track Deathbed, Mellee hoped to replicate the effect. And Princess Superstar was the first rapper to come to mind.
Both artists first made a name for themselves in the mid-2000s, Princess with Perfect (Exceeder), her collab with Mason, and Mellee with deadmau5's remix of Beautiful Rich & Horny, her collab with Dirty 30. With both employing a playful sexuality in their work, the match seemed a perfect fit.
"It was really great that we started working on this during pandemic lockdowns," reflects Princess. "It helped me get through them." A fitting experience given the themes of unity and support that Let's Do It Together champions.
