Sacrifice Zones airs on Forward Radio, 106.5fm and forwardradio.org, WFMP-LP Louisville, every Sunday at 11 am, Monday at 8 am and Tuesday at 2 pm. This podcast is in the public domain.
A friend of mine conducted this interview in early summer in a friend’s kitchen, while I did what I could to assist Laila with cooking a dish called Maqluba or “upside down”. The interview was with Laila Hasan with Women of Hebron. It is a collective of women who cross-stitch on fabrics and clothing and then Laila travels here to the US to sell them. These crafts help support their families in the West Bank. Talking to people about the plight of the Palestinian people in the West Bank is the main mission of Laila’s work. The propaganda that saturates our media landscape is very, very heavy with a bias toward the government of Israel. It is incredibly important to counter that narrative whenever possible. Unfortunately, none of us who got to meet Laila when this interview was done in August have heard from her since the bombing of Lebanon began.
