Listen

Description

On this edition of Sustainability Now, your host Justin Mog, puts on his beekeeper’s veil and sits down with Dr. Tammy Horn Potter, our State Apiarist with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture! Listen in to get an overview of the state of beekeeping and pollinators in our Commonwealth and to learn about some new resources to help sustain hive health in our region.

With the 2018 pesticide spraying season just beginning, we discuss KDA's new Pollinator Protection Program and the associated app - a voluntary tool that helps chemical applicators anonymously communicate with beekeepers when they intend to use a toxic spray and the label requires communication. Information about the new app which is free to use by both chemical applicators and beekeepers is available at: http://www.kyagr.com/statevet/documents/OSV_Bee_Pollinator-Handout.pdf.

You can contact our State Apiarist at tammy.potter@ky.gov or 502-229-2950. Find more resources online at http://www.kyagr.com/statevet/honeybees.html
