Best-selling author and scholar Michael Schudson joins host Coy Barefoot to discuss his book, The Good Citizen: A History of American Civic Life. The work is a fascinating history of the ideas and ideals of citizenship and democracy in America. He considers the issues and challenges facing journalism today, the impacts— both positive and negative— of new media and the internet, and the role of a free press in supporting civic life today. This conversation was originally recorded in August of 2014.
