In this episode I spoke to Eleni Sutter, the singer and primary songwriter for Byzmuti. Byzmuti’s debut album Tipota is difficult to describe in the best of ways. Over four tracks, Sutter and her top-notch band mix Neo-Soul influenced R&B with Greek folk music, psychedelic soundscapes, and hard progressive funk grooves. It is, without a doubt, a lot to take in on first listen but all of this musical excess is in support of Sutter’s fearless self-expression.
Over the course of our conversation we discuss the formation of Byzmuti’s live band, Sutter’s early influences in classical and jazz music, and the lyrical inspiration for the album.
