One day when I was 16 I grew frustrated with all of the fast-forwarding and rewinding I had to do when listening to my massive collection of tapes, I just wanted to be able to hear my favorite parts all in a row, namely the 80S guitar and drum god solos I was in love with at the time. I had also recently gotten hip to the herb and that definitely was facilitating this desire.
I had a huge boombox with dual cassette decks and I figured out how to make edits by
1) rewinding the record tape by hand a few millimeters and then
2) depressing the Play and Rec/Play decks at just the right offset to get the cut.
I was pretty stoked about this...soon my Van Halen/Neil Peart wankfest became something a bit more....
I would make two more of these tapes, each about two years apart. Sadly, I've lost them...super bummed about the last one as it made when I was in college and had discovered John Zorn and Frank Zappa....that collage was insane!!
Anyway...this obviously where it all began for me. My first fire mixtape!
p.s. I don't expect anyone to sit all the way through this but comments are certainly encouraged if you dig it or find yourself lost down a nostalgia-hole...
