A man (Van Heflin) suffering from a brain injury appears to have strangled his wife. When he is committed to a mental hospital, the doctor assigned his case (Janet Leigh) is skeptical about his claim of innocence and his reluctance to undergo treatment.
As she works with him, however, she begins to doubt his guilt and puts her career on the line to try to save him.
