Kendall is finishing up a story on the Dakota Territory and is about to leave the town of Deadwood when he meets man who is very nervously trying to purchase a gun in order to "protect himself."
Kendall suggests carrying a gun may be too dangerous, and offers to provide the man shelter in his hotel room.
As they are crossing the street, however, they are confronted by a stranger who says he is there to shoot the man he calls "preacher."
Dramatic story with a moving ending.
