Fort Laramie - "The Coward"
Major L.T. Wendt is no longer a major in the United States Cavalry. He was demoted to lieutenant two years ago by a board of inquiry in Washington determined for his poor judgment at the Battle of Antelope Meadows.
While not cited for cowardice, army gossip is he left his commander and 200 men to be wiped out. Now he has been transferred to Fort Laramie and Lee wants him assigned to his command; he once served under Major Wendt and considers him an old friend.
Major Daggett reluctantly agrees -- but can't help but wonder how he will react should he be once again battle-tested.
