Business Meeting to Consider S. 664 & H.R. 5317

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a business meeting on October 3, 2018. Two pieces of legislation were approved:
· S. 664, the Navajo Utah Water Rights Settlement Act of 2017. The bill ratifies a water settlement between the Navajo Nation and the state of Utah.
· H.R. 5317, the Repeal of Prohibition on Certain Alcohol Manufacturing on Indian Lands Act. The bill repeals an outdated ban on distilleries in Indian Country.
Both bills can now be considered by the full Senate. H.R. 5317 already passed the House so action in the Senate is all that's needed before the bill could become law before the end of the year.
