House Appropriations Committee debates an amendment to the fiscal year 2017 Interior appropriations bill that limits the ability of the president to designate certain geographical areas as a national monument. The amendment, which targets a tribally-supported monument at Bears Ears in Utah, was approved by a vote of 31-18.
Speakers are Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), Rep. Ken Calvert (R-California), Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota) and Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine).
