Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) speaks on the federal government's trust and treaty obligations on the floor of the U.S. Senate on February 13, 2025.

Murkowski serves as chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. She called on the administration of President Donald Trump to recognize the legal obligations of the United States to American Indians and Alaska Natives amid drastic actions taking place across federal agencies.

"We have a trust responsibility. We have an obligation that is clear," said Murkowski.
