This week we review 'Alita: Battle Angel' the new film from acclaimed producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez. Based on the classic manga "Gunmm" a.k.a "Battle Angel Alita".
It tells the story of Alita, an amnesiac female cyborg found by Dr Dyson Ido in the scrapheap. Dyson manages to revive her, and rebuild her a new body. Alita soon discovers that she's a practitioner of the legendary martial art Panzer Kunst, although she does not recall anything else. Alita uses her Panzer Kunst to first become a mercenary Hunter-Warrior, killing cyborg criminals in the Scrapyard, and then as a player in the brutal sport of Motorball.
With several western film adaptations of manga failing to garner financial or critical acclaim, Will Alita succeed where many others haven't, or do we need to stop trying to adapt manga to film?
