Welcome to the second installment of the Vibe Studies Mix Series! We are in a golden era of drum & bass music right now and I want to share the parts that are inspiring me. This mix is a comprehensive survey of the strain of drum & bass that is characterized by halftime drum programming, where the music is written in the 170-ish BPM range but the kick and snare are spread out to give more of a hip-hop or dub feeling. This is by far the most inspiring lineage of music for me right now as evidenced by what I've been making in the studio, several examples of which are included in this mix.
This style has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years, but people have been making drum & bass in this vein for a lot longer -- There are tracks in the mix that date back to 2005, and in my research for this mix I found tunes exhibiting this style from the 1990s.
