Psyche! Beyonce and Jay-Z are not this week’s guests on HBIC (I know, it’s devastating, but they’re on tour right now), but we are sharing the mic with our friend, colleague, and renaissance woman, Maiya Lanae! Paul could not help but think how appropriately aligned the content of The Carters’ debut joint project, “Everything is the Love,” was in comparison to the overarching themes of the HBIC podcast---career, life, and success. Maiya joins your co-hosts in dissecting the 9-track album, including the music video for “Apesh*t.”
Maiya is a health educator by day, and a DJ by night. You can catch her as DJ Mai Girl two Fridays a month at KISS, her residency at 515 Kitchen and Cocktails in Santa Cruz, or at various events in and around the Bay Area. Look out for the launch of her podcast, The Hot Mess Health Show, in the fall. She joined the Beyhive in 1997, a member of one of the first cohorts.
