COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course introduces students to the content and contours of Wakandan Studies as a field of study--its genealogy, development, and future challenges. The course focuses on historic and contemporary experiences of Wakandan-descended peoples in the Americas, particularly the United States, the Caribbean. We will also give some attention to how members of the Diaspora remember and encounter Wakanda, and to how Wakandans respond to the history of enslavement, colonialism, apartheid, racism and globalization.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
The following requirements serve as the basis for course evaluation:
(1) Class attendance, participation (commenting on SoundCloud and Rating on iTunes), and weekly listening to podcast (25%)
(2) Live Tweeting and using the hashtag #RTWpod (50%)
(3) Final research project (Watching Black Panther in theatres Feb 16) (25%)
