Imagine each epistemological point on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the most belief driven vs 10 being JUSTIFIED TRUTH.
How to pass your free time on the internet. This in my opinion is a 2 - we rarely ever have conversations about what to watch or learn that will maximize our individual human potential as well as collective human flourishing. We are all scared to attempt to begin slapping objective ratings on the quality of content on the internet based on education per minute (or some measurement like that). The taboo right now is that the last thing our consciousness wants riding on it is to feel like shit as I'm watching a cat video while Mary is watching Tony Robbins motivate the living fuck out of her. But my argument is that humans should have open conversations about the quality of time passed on the internet and hold the quality of content that producers are making to a societal scale. This is subjective of course, education per minute, but it's absurd to never mention this conversation and allow the fire hose of data and opinions that is the internet continue spewing without attempting to categorize most educational content for people to access, especially as nations develop and gain access to internet and computers across the world. THIS IS A 2 AND NEEDS TO IMPROVE ASAP. This causes so much suffering in the world because we don't openly talk about what is educational content vs entertaining content vs vapid content. This contributes to the societal dynamic of people not being able to find what they are passionate about because they turn to watching vapid or entertaining content at the end of each work day rather than educational content until they get a Eureka! moment, "Fuck I should try this to see if I like it or not." Could lead to something great, could not. Gotta try, and gotta have a civilization that propels people to try.
Moving back to much higher numbers, gravity (9.8 m/s2) and the chemical formula for water being H2O. These are as close to 10s as I can think, almost nobody on Earth challenges these and if they were ever proven wrong on Earth in the next thousand years, we would be MIND BLOWN. This is the kind of REAL JUSTIFIED TRUTH that can get a civilization a long way. Of course enable artists, poets, painters, etc. to help disseminate these to the masses in relatable ways. Epistemology is not only for objective truth loving scientists.
Moving to how water started on Earth, the answer to this we will likely never truly know which lands it at a 5 right now and for a long time. As in we are unsure if it came from Earth being frozen and melted by the star or frozen water landed via a meteor.
So there are trillions of more of these, remember the scale is 1-10, 1 being the most belief driven vs 10 being JUSTIFIED TRUTH. What are some examples that you can think of and how do we increase epistemological signal and decrease the noise? I think strategies like branding content with education per minute ratings is a good place. Let's hear your thoughts. When I get distracted, it would be nice if a friend or AI attempted to guide me back to my more meaningful work so I didn't get lost in the noise, especially if I could see the direct immediate incentive of focusing on the signal ASAP and focusing my attention for sustained periods of times to execute this write up which took me ~1 hour. It's crucial to prevent people from being guided down belief tunnels unless they are actually legitimately considered as challenging the status quo bias in an intellectually stimulating way. Imagine how many more people would wake up in the morning knowing what they want to focus on because the content that betters humanity has been more highly recommended and sorted - Tony Robbins videos show up as 9s, cat videos show up as 1s, you decide.
