Greetings my fellow ‘OwlHeads’! Here’s a radio Owlsnest oddity for you - my first outtakes show featuring my great friend, band member and drummer Trevor Thornton. On a whim, I visited the files of the earlier show I had recorded with Trev way back (Episode 4), knowing we had spoken and recorded for well over two hours… wondering what hidden gems and insights I could discover there and what I had left out from the original show. My goodness what a revelation. I found some brilliant stuff. Trevor has been the drummer for Asia (with Steve Howe), Saxon, Q.Feel, Kim Wilde - even yours truly ‘ME’ - along with countless other fine bands and artists. He was also involved in the groundbreaking iconic Def Leppard album ‘Pyromania’. So we had a tremendous amount to talk about; and, by God, these outtakes don’t hold back - the floodgates open - uncensored!
We talk about working with Nigel Green, Def Leppard’s and Q.Feel’s brilliant engineer; we alight upon his unique way of visualizing the sonic stereo field. We talk about being in punk-star-legend ‘Wreckless Eric’s’ studio band … preparing to record a breakthrough album with him … A very very strange time. We talk about Ringo and conspiracy theories. We discuss Trevor’s most embarrassing moments on a drum kit - yes - there’s more than one! And trust me…. you don’t want to miss that. Hope you have a strong stomach. We recall a tense and difficult encounter with new wave band ‘A Flock of Seagulls’ … can’t believe the things we got up to back in those crazy 80s. And Trevor offers up numerous mind boggling SCOOPS during the proceedings - all for free - no session fee involved. Needless to say, this is truly a raw outtakes show with no editing… two madmen just going for it. My belly is still aching from the laughs.
I’ll also be spinning some historic demos from the distant past recorded with Trevor at the very beginning of our career together … as well as some brand new tracks that Trev is working on with me now.
So stop what you’re doing, OwlHeads - you won’t want to miss this. OUTTAKE FEVER!
