“ RADIO OWLSNEST Episode 11 “

Welcome all my flat faced, big eared, loyal Owlheads to episode 11 of Radio Owlsnest - the place where my rare demos, my song experiments, my oldies, my newbies all get aired in an atmosphere of complete chaos and abandon. Labeled as a songwriter’s podcast for all intents and purposes, I like to think of it as more of a ‘Pagey’ retro magical mystery tour. When I record each show, I’m never sure which songs I’m going to play... my choices are always on the spur of the moment, chosen in the heat of battle. This show is no exception; I just go with the OwlHead flow!

Episode 11 is a real cornucopia of styles. Digging into my suitcase of cassettes from the ancient past, recently discovered oldies are randomly thrown together with brand new songs and rare mixes from my catalog.

You’ll hear the story behind one of my most-played songs, second only to “In the House of Stone and Light”. I place it within the top five songs that I’ve ever written. I’ll spin a very romantic Gaelic styled demo that is seeing the light of day .... for the first time in Yonkers (AGES!) - I’d literally forgotten about it; It was truly a cassette ‘dive’ discovery.

You’ll hear a song I wrote with a Robbie Williams folk album in mind (now there’s an unreal scenario if ever there was one), in which I had to explain to Robbie what a ‘press gang’ was. Journey back with me to an old England pub and the scavenging Royal Navy.

I’ll also give a spin to a new track that retraces a moment in time when the world changed forever, and the consequences weigh heavy on all of us still today.

Intermingled within the sonics is a different kind of quiz this month... a quiz that requires your judgment - your taste - your personal discrimination and your diplomacy ... I’m sure you’ll all be happy to hear that!

So sit back my feathered beasties, fold your weary wings, cradle that coffee, tea or (something stronger), and release yourself into the ether of Radio Owlsnest - where hopefully you can get lost with me for a short while.
