" RADIO OWLSNEST Episode 9 "
‘Greetings loyal OwlHeads! Welcome to episode 9 of Radio Owlsnest, where my ego gets the best of me and I play you the ‘orphans’ the ‘odds and sods’ and the ‘misfits’ of my long songwriting career. Today’s episode has a definite ‘animal’ lilt to it... our pets/cats and their brethren set the tone for this hour long ‘mistake’ for a tunesmith’s podcast. You’ll hear how reggae subtly - and not so subtlety - pulses through most of my work, illustrated by a spanking brand new song or two. Bob Marley’s ‘Catch a Fire’ has a lot to answer for.
I’ll spin you a re-imagined very rare version of one of my most beloved songs. Revisited because Josh Groban took a big shining to it! You all know it well.
I’ll play you a pre-master mix of a song that initially had the working title of ‘Karma’ and then took a sudden left turn and morphed into another creature.
You’ll hear how my studio music computer blew up .... and from that disaster a cherished song of mine was pieced back together like re-building the ‘million dollar man‘ - I mean song!
We’ll visit together the glorious 80’s when I spin a totally rare 8 track demo that got the ‘Commodores’ searching for their wild primitive instinct. Making an appearance will be a demo from my archives with the great Paul Young that tells a rather sexy tale of late night solitary lust. And a brand new song about my Father will be given its premier.
Surrounding the ‘ear candy’ will be the usual utter nonsense and whimsical musings of a veteran songwriter racking his brain to remember all the stories behind the songs.
So settle back wise OwlHeads... it’s time again to succumb to your hidden retro desires and join me for an ‘old school’ trip down songwriter memory lane.
