The Forsaken King
Sometimes people fail to recognise royalty, when there is no excuse. However, in the case of Jesus, as he hung dying on the Cross, it was surely less obvious. Many present just viewed him as a nobody being crucified outside the walls of Jerusalem by the Roman authorities like many others before him. Despite the sign above his head which stated 'King of the Jews', only a few of his followers believed it. No-one of note was ever crucified, only criminals, like the two men hanging beside him. In fact, it usually meant that the person was inconsequential. How could he possibly be royalty, a king - a king could not be subjected to such a barbaric, inhuman death - or could he?
