The Rise of Sin – Definition of Sin
Dictionary --- an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.
Commentators:
“Sin is any lack of conformity to the character of God whether in act or state."
“Sin is a hopelessly incurable disease of the soul" (the leprosy or cancer of sin).
“Sin is characteristic of the old nature, the flesh and finds expression daily."
I John 3:4,
Sin is an act; the breaking of a law or commandment is sin.
Sin is a state; the fallen state of man without righteousness.
Sin is a nature; the nature of fallen man at enmity against God
The Rise of Sin – Origin of Sin
Sin originated with Satan, Isa. 14:12-14.

But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. (15) Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
Sin entered the world through Adam.

Lusted for what was prohibited
Acted in absolute disbelief and disobeyed God's commands.
The Rise of Sin – Manifestations of Sin
Transgression--the overstepping of the law. Psa. 51:1, "Blot out my transgressions.“
Iniquity--an act inherently wrong or forbidden, as breaking a commandment. The departure from right. Psa. 51:9, Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities
Missing the mark--the failure to meet the divine standard. Rom. 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Trespass--the intrusion of the self-will into the sphere of God's authority - Ephesians 2:1 NASB And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
Lawlessness--this is spiritual anarchy. I Tim. 1:9 law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious
Debt--a failure in duty, the sin of omission, the things that we leave undone. Romans 4:4 NKJV Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
Unbelief--an insult to the divine veracity of God. Heb. 3:12, ". . . evil heart of unbelief."
The Results of Sin
Death--
Rom. 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Lost—
Luke 15:24, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. (Prodigal son)
Condemnation--
John 3:18, "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Guilt--
James 2:10 – For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
Punishment--
Matt. 25:46 " These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
Hell--
Matt. 25:41- Then He will also say to those on His left, `Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels
Lake of fire--the second death.
Rev. 20:14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
