Description

Life can be incredibly disorienting. Some of us struggle with this feeling of disorientation more than others, but all of us can relate to it at some point or another. In Deuteronomy, we look at an entire nation of Israelites who are facing the death of their leader, Moses. The one who prophesied and led them through the wilderness. The one who literally saw the face of God - and survived it. And here he was, at the end of his life.

There he was, but where were they? Without Moses? He was like a god to them. And he was dying.

Lets pause for a second and fast forward to the present, to our own selves and our own gods (or, the own objects or people we spend all of our energy on). Who are we without...our health? Our kids? Our jobs? Our professional credentials? Our retirement fund? If those things are suddenly taken away, how would we orient ourselves? It's a sobering thought, and one that gives me no feeling of comfort or pride to think about how much I rely on these things to give me peace.

At the end of his life, Moses knew that the Israelites would be reeling. So he reminds them, in wisdom, humility and truth: "There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty". (Deuteronomy 33:26) No one. No thing. No status, no health, no string of digits on your atm receipt. A sobering thought, indeed.

Listen in as Keith Williams unpacks these truths about the God who is our refuge and who rushes towards us as our one and only certain saviour.
