Description

Recorded in Weirton, West Virginia.

This snapshot was gathered in conjunction with the Museum on Main Street program at the Smithsonian Institution and its "Stories from Main Street" initiative. The project is intended to capture Americans' impressions and stories about their small-town and rural neighborhoods, waterways, personal experiences, and cultural traditions.

What is your favorite memory of living in a small town?

"I like Weirton because almost everybody's friendly, and Weirton is where I've been living, and where I go to school. I like it because my teachers are nice to me. I do great at my school, and then I just like it very much because it's just everybody in Weirton is family.

What about your church family?

Well where I go to church at, every Sunday before we start church, then we have refreshments, and then we go to church, and then we sing a couple of songs, and the pastor comes. Then he starts preaching. I take my Bible and turn to the pages that he tells us to go to.

And do you enjoy that?

Yes."
