Description

Recorded in Cozad, Nebraska.

This snapshot was gathered in conjunction with the Museum on Main Street program at the Smithsonian Institution and its "Stories from Main Street" initiative. The project is intended to capture Americans' impressions and stories about their small-town and rural neighborhoods, waterways, personal experiences, and cultural traditions, and work histories.

Talk about a memory you have of living in a small town.

"On the 4th of July 2012, it was a pretty fun 4th. We went to this camp thing. My whole family went, it was like a mile or 2 miles out of Maxwell. Just got to put up a donation to get in and they feed you all you eat, whether. There's a fireworks show at the end. During the time that you're there, you just go boating, tubing, canoeing, whatever you want pretty much. They got water trampolines and a bunch of stuff. The food is pretty good and they serve hamburgers and hot dogs and just whatever, salads. It's just all day thing. There's a fireworks show but every time we go, it gets canceled because it storms, and this last year it was bad."
