The Peale is excited to share stories and photos by Daisy Brown, a native Baltimorean, who is working on a audio-diary project called, "Stoop Shoots." From a safe distance, Daisy is taking photos of people in East Baltimore on their stoops and in the surrounding neighborhood. She's also capturing black-and-white vignettes of street corners, parks, and sidewalks in East Baltimore.
"Stoop Shoots" is part of the Be Here: Baltimore storytelling program and a new way to discover the people and places of the city. To date, we have shared more than 1,500 stories online, at the Peale Center, and in Baltimore’s communities. Hear stories from around Baltimore and record your own on the Peale’s website or using the Free Be Here Stories App for iOS.
Daisy: Hi, I'm Daisy Brown, staff photographer for the Peale, and welcome to "Stoop Shoots," where once a week, I will feature photos and stories of residents of East Baltimore. Here you will learn stories about how they dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. Let me introduce you to Cynthia Gross. Cynthia is the president of the Care Community Association, located in East Baltimore.
Cynthia: Hello, my name is Cynthia Gross, and I am currently the president of the Care Neighborhood Association. I've lived in the neighborhood for 50 plus years. Care Community Association was established in 2004. We're a very small community or neighborhood here in East Baltimore, actually middle East Baltimore. We're directly East of Johns Hopkins East Baltimore Medical Campus. So, today we're out here distributing food to our neighbors who may be in need. We do a lot of things around trying to advocate for our neighbors in whatever way they deem appropriate. So, today we had one of our youth members. We also had one of the people who was just recently elected to the City Council come out and help us distribute food to our neighbors.
Daisy: And, who is the City Council person?
Cynthia: Oh, Tony Glover. He was just recently elected . . . barring no issues with the election. (Laughs). We all know things are still up in the air; votes have to be counted, so as of right now, he's in the lead, let me put it like that. He's in the lead. He came out to help us distribute food, which he does on a regular basis, and we're happy to have everyone involved.
Daisy: Until next time, thank you for watching Stoop Shoots.
